A Time for Reflection and Commitment

September 2025

Michael Daniels EdD, MSEd,  MIEd, OCT

This September 30th, we mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is a vital opportunity for all Canadians to pause, listen, and reflect on the painful and ongoing legacy of the residential school system and the colonial injustices faced by Indigenous peoples.

At Missing Links, our core mission has always been to champion the human rights and inherent dignity of every individual, as exemplified in our Progressive ABA. We believe that a just and prosperous community can only exist when we acknowledge historical truths, confront systemic inequalities, and actively work to build bridges of understanding. Honouring this day is a profound extension of our commitment to ensuring that every voice is heard and every person is valued.

True reconciliation requires more than reflection; it demands action. It calls on each of us to move from awareness to meaningful participation. This year, we encourage you to join us in taking tangible steps towards reconciliation:

Wear Orange: On September 30, wear an orange shirt to honour the children who survived residential schools and remember those who did not.

Listen and Learn: Take time to listen to the stories and experiences of Indigenous peoples.

Amplify Indigenous Voices: Support and promote Indigenous-owned businesses, artists, authors, and organizations in your community.

Engage in Conversation: Share what you’ve learned with your friends, family, and colleagues. Encourage open and respectful dialogue about our shared history.

Reconciliation is a continuous journey about building a future where our differences are not just tolerated, but celebrated as the very fabric of our inclusive community.

Let’s work together to ensure that the principles of truth, justice, and respect guide us forward.
