Summer Skills. Summer Success

By Michael Daniels

Summer break is just around the corner, and for families of autistic children, it can bring mixed feelings. While the warmer months offer a chance to relax, the long break from school can also mean a loss of structure, routine, and hard-won skills. We understand this challenge, and we're excited to confirm how Missing Links makes summer different. This isn't just a break from school; it's a launchpad for growth.

In addition to our regular program options, our Summer Skills program is a supportive and engaging summer experience designed to help children build essential skills in a structured, small-group setting. We believe that when school's out, learning doesn't have to stop. It just has to be different. We fill the summer gap with structure, fun, and skill-rich learning to prevent the "summer slide" and create a "summer surge" in confidence, independence, and communication.

A Program Built for Your Child's Unique Needs

This summer, we're helping children and adults build the skills they need for success. Our offerings are designed to target the specific areas where children with ASD often need the most support :

Self-Regulation & Emotional Awareness: We help children develop strategies to manage impulse control, practice flexible thinking, and improve their problem-solving skills. This is about giving them the tools to understand and manage their emotions.

Daily Living Skills & Sensory Self-Help: From practical tasks like dressing and hygiene to managing their belongings, we build the independence needed for daily life.

Social Connections: Summer is the perfect time to practice friendship and teamwork. Our program provides a safe space for children to connect with peers and build meaningful social skills.

Academic Tutoring: We provide targeted support to reinforce learning and help prevent the academic regression that can occur over the summer.

Executive Functioning & Hidden Curriculum: We teach real-world planning and problem-solving, helping children learn the "unwritten rules" of social situations; how to read facial expressions, take turns in conversation, and navigate social cues.

Language & Communication: Our focus includes social communication and support for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), ensuring every child has a voice.

Summer Skills for Transitioning Youth and Adults

We know that the need for support doesn't end in childhood. That's why we are also excited to highlight our Adult Day Program. This program is specifically designed to welcome adolescents for the summer or those who are transitioning from high school. It offers a bridge to the next stage of life, focusing on independence, vocational skills, and community engagement. This is a crucial time to build the skills necessary for post-school success, and our program is here to guide that journey.

Flexible Options and a Commitment to Your Family

We understand every family is different, so we offer flexible session options to fit your schedule.

Full day. Half day. By the hour. Every option is available to meet your scheduling needs. Our small group ratios or 1:1 sessions ensure that each child receives the individualized attention they deserve. We are also proud to accept Ontario Autism Program (OAP) and are supervised by an RBA, ensuring our programs meet the highest standards of care.

This Summer, Watch Them Leap Forward

At Missing Links, we are more than just a summer program. We are a team of compassionate, experienced ABA professionals who are passionate about meeting each learner where they are. We create a safe, stimulating, and joyful environment where your child isn't just learning, they're having fun, gaining confidence, and feeling proud of themselves. We provide consistent routines to support regulation and ensure that progress carries over into the school year and beyond. This summer, don't let your child just stay on track; let them leap forward. Spaces are limited, so we encourage you to contact us today to learn more, schedule a tour, or speak with a member of our team.

Let's build a summer full of progress, purpose, and success.
